TIME CHANGE

This poem was written early in the war in June of 1861.

How would it have been different if it was written in June of 1865 as opposed to when it was really written in June of 1861.

Make a TIMELINE of the the major events of the war involving women Dorothea Dix, Clara Barton, Mary Todd Lincoln, Harriet Tubman, Mary Chestnutt, Sojourner Truth, NAMES OF FEMALE NOTABLES and make sure that these names are includeed in your timeline from June 1861 to June 1865. As you review the information on link one and link two, select what you believe to be the most important and the most relevant to the intentions of Leah Blackman and her poetry.

After you make you have created your timeline, select an event within the timeline that may have directly affected Leah Blackman and inspired her to write a completely different poem than the original.

For example, she may have have lost a significant number of family members and/or close friends in the battles that occurred between 1861 and 1865. As a result her "patriotic cheer" may have been transformed into words of sorrow.

Or she may have gotten physically involved in the war and have an exciting story to tell.
