MOVIE SCENE
Write a scene for a movie based on the poem. As the producer you have a "creative license" which allows you to add as many twists, controversies, trauma, and excitement as you believe will captivate the largest number of viewers. Use dialogue as well as stage direction in your piece of creative writing. You might consider the following suggestions to get you started:
What were the events that led the author to the poem?
What could have happened in her life that led her to write a poem for the soldiers in the Civil War?
Where was the author when the poem was written?
What was the author attempting to accomplish in the writing of this poem? (Was she attempting to get the attention of a long lost love?)
How did those who read the poem react to it? (Did her long lost love's wife know of her intentions?) (Did she steal the words of her younger yet more talented sister and enjoy all the credit for it?)
What happened to the author after the poem was written and read?
Did anyone ever read the poem? Why or why not? (Was Leah Blackman an exteremly introverted individual who lived a hidden life?)
Was there a conspiracy by those who had opposing viewpoints? (Was she jailed or tortured by the Confederate Army?)
Was the poem a scandal because of what was written, where it was written, when it was written, or by whom it was written?
